School-Based Therapy That Strengthens Students, Schools & Communities
Accessible mental health support—right where students are.
At Intentional Steps Counseling Services, PLLC, we believe emotional wellness and academic success are deeply connected. Our school-based therapy program brings culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based behavioral health care into the school setting—reducing barriers and helping students receive support in a familiar environment.
We serve students experiencing emotional, behavioral, social, or mental health concerns that may affect their well-being, relationships, attendance, or academic progress. Each student is supported according to their age, strengths, family context, clinical needs, and treatment goals.
Our licensed and provisionally licensed clinicians collaborate with students, caregivers, designated school personnel, and community partners while protecting each student’s privacy and dignity. We are not simply addressing a concern in the moment—we are helping students build the skills, resilience, and support needed to move forward.
How We Support Students & Families
-
Assessment, individualized treatment planning, individual and group therapy, crisis evaluation, and support for anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, behavioral concerns, and life transitions.
-
Students build coping, emotional-regulation, and social skills while caregivers receive collaboration, needs assessment, case-management connections, and practical resources when appropriate.
-
Our clinicians coordinate with designated school personnel and community partners—within confidentiality requirements—to support continuity of care, academic engagement, and sustainable student well-being.
-
Intentional Steps proudly partners with Kannapolis City Schools district-wide and with Cabarrus County Schools at Weddington Hills Elementary School, Harold E. Winkler Middle School, West Cabarrus High School, Opportunities School, Performance Learning Center, and Recovery School. Service availability may vary by school, referral volume, clinical need, staffing, and family eligibility.
-
A referral begins through a participating school or approved program contact. A parent or legal guardian provides consent, and our team completes an initial screening, needs assessment, and insurance or payment review. When care is appropriate and available, the student is matched with a clinician who coordinates with the family and designated school personnel within confidentiality requirements.
