Meet Dr. Sherronda Banks

I’m Dr. Sherronda Banks—a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW, LISW-CP), educator, speaker, and the founder of Intentional Steps Counseling Services, PLLC. With over 22 years of experience in the field of social work and mental health, I’ve built my career on creating intentional, inclusive, and culturally responsive spaces for healing and growth.

I am deeply committed to walking alongside individuals and communities as they navigate life’s challenges. Whether in therapy, supervision, the classroom, or on the stage, I show up with transparency, strategy, and care. I created Intentional Steps to serve as a safe, affirming group practice for those seeking to take meaningful steps toward healing and mental wellness—no matter where they are in their journey.

At my core, I believe in doing the work with heart, skill, and purpose—and creating a team that reflects those same values.

Why I Built Intentional Steps

Intentional Steps Counseling Services was born out of a desire to do things differently. I saw a need for a practice that was grounded in clinical excellence, culturally responsive care, and genuine human connection. A space where therapy wasn’t transactional, but transformational.

As our practice has grown into a team of skilled and diverse clinicians, our mission remains the same: to help clients feel seen, supported, and empowered. We work with individuals, families, and professionals who are ready to move forward—with purpose, with clarity, and with support that makes sense for who they are.

We don’t offer cookie-cutter care. We meet people where they are and walk with them—one intentional step at a time.

My Approach

While I no longer carry a full caseload, I continue to lead our practice with vision, clinical insight, and compassion. I support our therapists in providing high-quality, evidence-informed care while honoring the lived experiences of our clients.

My leadership is grounded in collaboration, cultural humility, and sustainability—for both our clients and our clinicians. I also continue to speak nationally on topics such as resilience, mental health equity, burnout, and clinical leadership, and provide mentorship and clinical supervision for social workers and mental health professionals across North and South Carolina.

  • “She leads with both head and heart.”

  • “You feel supported, seen, and empowered in every space she holds.”

  • “Working with her helped me find my voice and trust my steps.”
