"Sometimes To Survive we must be made something entirely new "
Tigest Girma
My name is Ms. Nyree, and I am a licensed clinical social worker with a passion for helping people find their way to a more independent and fulfilling life. My career has been defined by my commitment to advocacy, cultural responsiveness, and person-centered care across diverse settings.
For over a decade, I've championed the well-being of persons with disabilities and school-age children. As a special needs counselor and educator in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, I gained extensive experience in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and fostering inclusive learning environments. My work has also included serving as an employment specialist, guiding individuals with disabilities through occupational skill-building and advocating for successful workforce integration. This background has given me a unique understanding of how to champion self-determination across the lifespan.
My current practice is grounded in trauma-informed care and family systems therapy, which allows me to effectively guide individuals through significant life transitions. I have a specialized therapeutic focus on domestic violence, working with both survivors and those who have caused harm. My goal is to help individuals identify their triggers and develop healthier behaviors, fostering a path toward healing and accountability. This work is also deeply informed by my experience orchestrating culturally responsive care plans for Black families and youth, addressing mental health disparities from both a grassroots and research-based perspective.
I believe in the power of open and honest conversation to create a safe space where you can explore what's on your mind. I'm dedicated to connecting people with the right resources and championing self-advocacy.
Fun Fact: I've been a classically trained flautist for 40 years and I'm also a Zumba instructor!
